[THE CHALLENGE]

A global healthcare technology organization faced significant challenges achieving a consolidated, real-time view of key business performance indicators across domains — Technology, Human Resources, Customer Experience (NPS, CSAT), Quality, Innovation, and Transformation initiatives.

Critical data was fragmented across flat files, SQL databases, CRM systems, and multiple datamarts. Manual reporting was cumbersome, inconsistent, and time-consuming. Leadership required a centralized, reliable, and insightful view of KPIs aligned to strategic goals — to drive faster and more informed decision-making.

Reporting turnaround took several weeks. By the time metrics reached the executive table, they were already outdated. Strategic decisions were being made on stale data, and the effort to compile reports was consuming significant analyst capacity each cycle.

Design and deliver an integrated executive analytics platform — a single source of truth for all critical KPIs, automatically refreshed, role-aware, and drill-through capable from enterprise level to individual leader.

PHASE 01
KPI Framework Definition
Collaborated closely with executive leadership to standardize and gain consensus on the operational definitions of KPIs and associated performance goals across all functional areas — Technology, HR, Customer Experience, Quality, Innovation, and Transformation. Produced a canonical KPI dictionary with agreed calculation logic, ownership, and target thresholds before any data work began.

PHASE 02
Data Landscape Mapping
Conducted a comprehensive analysis of all data sources, formats, and dimensional models — flat files, SQL databases, CRM systems, and datamarts across business functions. Identified all relevant datasets, documented data quality issues, and designed the target data model to unify disparate sources into a coherent analytical layer.

PHASE 03
Big Data Integration & Transformation
Leveraged the existing Big Data ecosystem — MAPR with Apache Hive — to build data ingestion and transformation pipelines unifying all disparate data sources. Sqoop used for structured data ingestion from SQL databases; Apache NiFi for real-time and semi-structured data flows. Transformation logic applied to standardise, cleanse, and align data to the agreed KPI framework.

PHASE 04
Iterative Prototyping
Developed multiple dashboard prototypes incorporating continuous executive feedback — ensuring alignment with usability expectations, business needs, and decision-making workflows. Prototype cycles validated layout, drill-through paths, metric grouping, and visual hierarchy with the leadership team before final build. Datameer used as the Big Data SaaS layer for exploration during prototyping.

PHASE 05
Scalable Visualisation Platform
Finalized the executive dashboard in Tableau — enabling intuitive, dynamic, and drill-through-capable visualisation across all KPI domains. Configured for automated daily data refreshes ensuring near real-time data availability for the executive team. RBAC implemented to ensure secure, governed, and personalised access — each user seeing only information relevant to their role and scope.
